This has been a week to remember! It all started with Jared being sick. The poor little guy went from stomach bug, to fever, to cold and congestion, to ear infection. He actually visited the pediatrician twice in one week. Will winter ever end? Then we had the most wicked wind storm last Sunday that knocked out power for almost four days. It was like camping at home, but not at all fun! But the worst part of all is the forest fire that started on the other side of the mountain range across from our house. The fire started Sunday, but by late Monday night had jumped the fire lines at the top of the mountain and had started heading down toward our street. Imagine my horror at 3:00 a.m Tuesday morning to wake up smelling smoke and see the mountains on fire across the street. We thought of all of the things that we would absolutely need to survive if our house was destroyed. We even hitched up the camper in anticipation of having to leave. Friday and Saturday were quite interesting. There were fire trucks, National Guard Humvees, and helicopters all swarming the road. They even had our road blocked off by the police. You couldn't enter without a driver's license to prove that you lived here. They are now saying that the fire is contained, but that there are still many spots still burning within the contained area. They say that in all, around 4000 acres have burned. WOW! That just blows my mind. Next week has got to be an improvement!

I hate that you guys had to smell smoke for so many days and be without power. Hopefully this week will be better.
